The title is a quote from my manager at work. So I now get to talk about digital competencies, with an official mandate.
So I had conversations with the people who are in the position to advise the leadership team of my organisation on everything. Including digital.
Which really is just one person. Who is certainly good at many things. As we know though, one person can’t be good at absolutely everything.
So my next step is to show why the digital age is about the network. Things are complex, nobody can know everything anymore, that’s why we don’t do hierarchies anymore. Work, now, is all about bringing in the skills, passion and competencies of as many people as you can. Creativity, now, is all about bringing people in. Digital communication is about the network, listening more than talking.
And as soon as someone uses social media, you can see how much of this they understand. If they just talk and don’t connect, you can see that too.
So that’s easy, really.
But my god, yesterday was hard work. Me, the militant optimist (that is an old Futuregov badge I used to wear) vs a person who considers themselves an absolute authority and who is sure it can’t be done. Who, when I mentioned some tools we’d absolutely need for the storytelling and some people who can explain why we need those tools (in this case Harald Schirmer, who is great on collaboration), predicted that I’d quit in frustration in a few months.
The game, as we say, is afoot.
They clearly don’t know you. Keep up the good work.
